In one of our indigenous languages, Afrikaans, we call pantyhose 'sykouse'.
Sy = silk
Kouse = socks
So pantyhose = silk socks

In China pantyhose means 裤袜 连裤袜

in Chinese mainland,we call it "连裤袜",which is written in simplified chinese.

sometimes we also call it "裤袜" in oral

there you can see, that the white Africans have a strong connection to the Netherlands ( where their ancestors came from )

In Latvian = zeÄ·ubikses or zeÄ·bikses, or zeÄ·enes
All means same thing

I'm glad you cleared that up. B/C I actually got in a disagreement about that with someone not too long ago. I explained that 'tights' and 'pantyhose' are the same thing. The whole interpretation of "tights are thicker" thing started in America I think, b/c in dance studios they refer to their attire as tights or leotards which are opaque mostly. So, I think that's where some of the confusion comes from.

Here in the USA we call them pantyhose. Although, I cringe when I hear some people over here that call pantyhose "stockings". Uh, that drives me crazy!! *lol*
